Simultaneous energy, biomass, oxygen generating and carbon absorbing panels
Mexico: Research on eco-friendly and green buildings is underway around the world, and in this context, a Mexican start-up company has developed algae-based panels that generate energy, produce oxygen, and form biomass. And absorb carbon dioxide.
Although it has been researched for many years, the new panel is made of stained glass, which is filled with algae and greenery. It absorbs carbon dioxide and carries it to water and to specific algae. Algae absorb carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight and perform photosynthesis. It makes oxygen. The more sunlight there is, the more oxygen will be formed and the more biomass will be formed.
One pound of algae in the panel can absorb two pounds of carbon dioxide. The water inside the panel can absorb heat and thus reduce the need for air conditioning in the building or house. This heat can also be used to increase biomass. This biomass can then be used in combustible fuels. This way the house can be kept warm by burning biomass in winter.
This system is made by the company ‘Green Fluidx’. The company has dubbed it a bioreactor and has paid special attention to its design to make it look more beautiful and become part of the building. Although it has been under construction since 2018, it will be sold commercially in the next few years.
It should be noted that with a little change this whole system can also generate electricity and algae can also be used as a natural fertilizer.
