Diagnosing a case of polio in the US almost 10 years later
New York: An unvaccinated youth has been diagnosed with polio in the American city of New York. After almost 10 years, a case of polio has been reported in America.
A Rockland County resident suffered a stroke, according to health officials. The patient developed these symptoms a month ago and has not traveled outside the county in recent days.
According to officials, it appears that the patient is suffering from vaccine-derived poliovirus and that the virus may have been contracted by a person who received the live vaccine and then spread the virus.
At this time, the patient is not believed to be capable of spreading the virus, but researchers are trying to determine how the infection occurred and whether other people were infected.
Jennifer Nuzzo, a global epidemic researcher at Brown University, said most Americans are vaccinated against polio, but the unvaccinated should take the case as a wake-up call.
Jennifer said that this is not normal. We don’t want to see it all. If you are vaccinated, you don’t need to worry about this. But if you haven’t vaccinated your children, it’s very important.
